Tiffany presented a social media workshop at the Washington State annual meeting of the American Association of University Women and did an outstanding job of engaging an audience that had varying degrees of familiarity with Facebook and Twitter. Her use of examples and statistics touched on the mechanics of social media, but more importantly demonstrated how critical it is for the organization to adapt to the social media culture.

I cannot speak highly enough about Tiffany Chhuom as a manager, cultivator of talent, project supervisor, mental health expert, and leader. As someone who has co-authored papers with Tiffany, worked on projects collaboratively with Tiffany, and (early in my career) been supervised and mentored by Tiffany….The first thing you need to understand about Tiffany is that she gets things done. I have seen Tiffany oversee many projects; each time, she exceeds expectations. As someone who has both worked alongside and under Tiffany, I can tell you that she inspires those who work with her and underneath her to do their best. She pursues excellence, and she inspires others to do the same. She is goal-driven: she wants programs and projects to be successful, and it shows…….I believe Tiffany has been so successful because she cares about the projects she oversees. She manages large, complex projects with a combination of professional expertise, wise delegation, and clear organization. She leads by example, but she also is careful to protect her time and keep her resources available to ensure big projects stay on track.
As a manager of people, Tiffany attunes well to her staff. She intuitively ‘gets’ the people she works with, which makes her an incredibly effective manager. She knows when to relate, when to push, when to listen, and when to let people vent. At the same time, she can make the tough calls as needed. I suspect you could ask any of her former employees and hear a similar story.
Finally, she is a cultivator of talent. She has been a mentor to many up-and-coming professionals in the psychological and mental health world, yours truly among them. Tiffany was the first Data Collection Manager at SDRG to provide smart phones to her staff to increase staff productivity and participant retention with automated texting and use of multiple smart phone apps in novel ways. She created a recipe for creating work-appropriate social media personal pages for her study staff and went on to train our other managers how to ethically train and supervise entry-level staff to build and rely on social media accounts and other web tools for participant location and engagement. Her comfort level experimenting with technology in research by way of unconventional strategies improved study implementation and was indicative of her work style: vision-oriented and results-driven…

Tiffany is an engaging presenter who shared valuable perspective on ethics in primary research. I teach a marketing research class to MBA students at Willamette University and asked Tiffany to share her perspective on ethics in research via Google Hangouts with my class. Despite being a remote presenter, Tiffany was engaging and warm and made excellent points. She is committed to education and to helping students and to doing sound and ethical research.
